A New Endeavor

Greetings,

So this is the initial post on my blog. I still am unsure of the direction this will take, but for now, I see this blog not as a portfolio for my photography, but rather a portal to my daily work. It will have recent pictures, old pictures and other random photos I take while I continue my journey in Salt Lake City. Feel free to comment with any suggestions or critiques you might have.

This photo was taken at The Canyons Ski Resort in Park City. I was there working on a story about the end of the ski season in Utah and how great the conditions are for spring skiing. Keep in mind that the Uinta Mountains have had nearly 500 inches of snow already and some resorts stayed open until July 4th last year. I love the Utah snow!

Wow, first to comment. What an honor. I got here via your girlfriend’s photoblog via a link she left on SportsShooter. I saw this photo on APAD today, and I’ve very confused by it. What’s reflected, the girl or the skiers? I’m going to guess from the caption that you’re standing outside looking at the girl on the inside. I like that she’s there, but my eye can’t figure out why. Anyway, cool photo. It kind of reminds me of your split cam stuff.

    Adam,

Thanks for the comments. The reflection is of the mountain, sky and skiers. I was shooting from outside the lodge and she was sitting outside. The sun broke from behind the clouds to provide the light on her face. The frame looks like it is split because there was a bright orange safety net that ran along the bottom third of the frame. When converted to black and white through the blue channel in photoshop, the orange color almost completely fades away, leaving the mountain and skiers in better view. Hope this helps.

Serious info in this photograph. Love the tones. Great eye, good seeing.
