Last October, I traveled to New York City to document The Apollo Chamber Players’ concert at Carnegie Hall’s Weill Recital Hall as a part of their 2013 East Coast Tour. My brother, violinist Matt Detrick, founded the string quartet in 2008 in Houston, Texas. The other members include violinist Anabel Ramirez, violist Whitney Bullock and cellist Matthew Dudzik.
Apollo performed original string quartet arrangements of folk melodies from the Basque and Slavic regions as well as works by Ravel, Lutosławski, and Janáček. They also performed the world premiere of a commissioned work by Karim Al-Zand, inspired by Bulgarian folk rhythms.
The concert was truly amazing and it was fun to see how far Matt has come in his thirty years of violin playing.
