People without People

Lately, I have found myself taking a lot of photos with non-human subjects. In photo-j school, the term used was “people without people.” Essentially the picture would have a non-human subject, but it would still reveal how a person had interacted or influenced that environment. Here are a few pics taken in Tooele County, Utah.

High School Rodeo

Last week I shot the State High School Rodeo Competition in Tooele (~40 miles west of SLC). The light was pretty amazing and I had fun shooting these young athletes ride the fierce animals. I also played around with a “Lens Baby.” This is a poor man’s tilt and shift lens that is made from […]

Dignity March

On Sunday, an estimated 30,000 people marched through downtown Salt Lake City during a rally in opposition to immigration reforms proposed in Congress. Black delivered 75 minutes of […]

Fun in the Snow

Today I got to cover the 2nd annual Wolf Mountain “End of the Season Soapbox Derby”. I am not sure why they called it a soapbox derby because there was certainly no soap, soapboxes or even derby racing involved in this event. What was involved was about 15 different teams, each of whom had constructed […]

One of the major topics in the new this week has been the discussion of H.R. 4437: Border Protection, Antiterrorism, and Illegal Immigration Control Act of 2005. There have been many public demonstrations against this bill including over a half million people protesting in the streets of Los Angeles as well as hundreds of thousands […]
