    Halloween

      Anti Halloween

Ben Crowe dislikes Halloween because of a childhood memory that fell on the same day most people go trick-or-treating. At the age of 7, growing up in Chapel Hill, North Carolina, Crowe missed his ride home Halloween day from soccer practice. Taking a back-woods route home, he came upon a road and was approached by a slow-moving station wagon. The driver, a man, rolled down his window to talk to Crowe briefly, then drove on. Crowe learned the day after that his classmate, a young girl, had been strangled to death in her trailer home by the same man, who was her stepfather. The memory of this event has colored Crowe’s memory of the holiday ever since. “It’s not the only reason I don’t like Halloween, but it’s definitely a factor,” he said. “The process of coming up with a costume is also anxiety-inducing. I can never pull it off.”

        Half Marathon

I went down to Moab last weekend to watch Ashley compete in the half marathon. Out of 1,500 runners, she finished 24th overall, 5th in the woman’s division and was second in her age group (20-29). Her time was 1:33.02. Pretty sweet.

            EAW XXI

Here are some pictures from the 21st annual Eddie Adams Workshop in Jeffersonville, NY. This year, I was asked to be a driver on the Black Team, so I helped transport faculty and staff members to and from NYC in our rental Mustang convertible. The weather was perfect and the leaves were changing colors into beautiful hues of red, orange and yellow.

                Olympic Panos

I finally got around to developing and scanning some film I shot at the Beijing Olympics. Before the games, I bought a Russian Horizon Perfekt panoramic camera. This ‘toy’ camera offers 120 degrees of view as the lens swings from side to side, exposing parts the film as it moves. It was great to experiment with and I look forward to using it on future projects.
